Informing students and parents of school sport team opportunities

The sports coordinator supported by school leaders will inform students and parents of upcoming

opportunities. This may be via a mix of daily student notices, newsletters, printed notices, emailed notices, St Patrick's school app and the St Patrick's School Facebook Page.

Registration

● Registration deadlines must be met by parents/students

● Late registration will only be considered if teams are in need of additional players to make up

numbers. If teams are full, no late registrations will be accepted

● Every child that has registered before the cut off date has the opportunity to be in a team

● So no registered child will be excluded, the total number of children registered determines the

number of teams and numbers of players within teams (Sometimes team numbers have to be

larger or smaller than ideal to facilitate this)

● The number of players in the team covers the team registration cost and also includes a fee for

uniform hire and/or sports equipment needed.

● Fees need to be paid by deadlines before a child is placed into a team

Team creation

● When creating teams we aim to be fair, inclusive and transparent

● All teams need to have a Coach and Manager to be registered (This relies on parent, whanau,

    community and staff volunteers)

● Unless an event is gender-specific, a gender balance will be sought across teams.

● Year 1-4 players are made up of mixed ability athletes

● Year 5-8 players playing in an ungraded sports competition will be made up of mixed ability

● Year 5-8 teams that are playing in graded competitions may be placed in teams based on their previous

   experience and/or current ability

● Should students/parents request a team/friend to be with, the school will take this into consideration with

parents understanding that there are a number of factors being considered when making up teams.

● The school holds all rights for team creation and athlete placement with the focus on meeting the aims of

   this document.
